The AELAB A3 Series Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer is a high performance automated instrument designed to meet the requirements of the modern laboratory. Due to its versatility and performance it can be used for a wide range of applications including Agricultural, Environmental, Metal, Geological, Pharmaceutical, Clinical, Food, Mining and Petrochemical.

The versatile instrument is available in three configurations: A3F — the instrument is equipped with a flame atomiser only and is fully controlled by the embedded computer system and AA-Win 3.0 software; A3G — the instrument is equipped with a Graphite Furnace Atomiser only with precise feedback temperature control; A3FG — the instrument is equipped with both Flame Atomiser and Graphite Atomiser, selectable in AA-Win 3.0.

⚙️ Design & Construction

AELAB A3 employs a computer-controlled Czerny–Turner monochromator with a 1800 grooves/mm diffraction grating, 250nm blaze and 300mm focal length. A single-beam optical path integrates Hollow Cathode Lamps with Deuterium Arc lamp for background correction and an 8-lamp turret with independent warm-up control. Flame modules use Titanium Alloy burner heads and a corrosion-resistant pre-mix chamber. The graphite furnace features a transversally heated head with pyrolytically coated platform tubes and optional water circulator for efficient cooling. Robust steel chassis and safety interlocks (burner identification, flame and gas sensors, power loss protection) stabilize operation in routine analysis.

🔬 Working Principle / Testing Method

The AELAB A3 Series quantifies elemental concentration by measuring atomic absorption at discrete wavelengths between 185–910 nm. For flame AAS the nebuliser introduces the sample aerosol to Air/Acetylene, N2O/Acetylene or LPG flames. For furnace AAS the platform graphite tube performs programmable steps (dry, ash, atomise, clean; up to 10 steps) with voltage and optical temperature feedback. The system uses square-wave modulation with D2 (1.0Abs) and Self-Reversal (3.0Abs) background correction to compensate non-specific absorption. Data acquisition is handled by AA-Win 3.0 with continuous, peak height and peak area readout, multi-standard calibration, standard addition and interpolation.

💡 Key Advantages

  • 185–910 nm spectral coverage with software-selectable 0.1–2.0 nm bandwidths for flexible line selection.
  • 8-lamp turret with independent warm-up ensures rapid method changeover and high throughput.
  • Graphite furnace sensitivity (Cu 50 ng/ml > 0.40Abs) and repeatability (Cu < 2.0%) for trace quantification.
  • Flame sensitivity (Cu 2 µg/ml > 0.28Abs) with characteristic concentration Cu < 0.02 µg/ml.
  • Automatic atomiser changeover on A3FG; manual selection on A3F to match workflow.
  • Comprehensive safety: gas leak and pressure sensors, water flow/over-temperature sensors, burner identification.
  • Stable baseline 0.005Abs/30min with 0.15 nm wavelength accuracy improves long-run reproducibility.

🔗 Connectivity & Integration

The AELAB A3 Series is controlled by a PC running Windows OS with AA-Win 3.0 software. Analytical results, instrument parameters, signal profiles and calibration curves are stored digitally and can be exported for GLP documentation. USB/PC connectivity supports method backup and report generation. Optional accessories include autosampler and printers.
