Soil Permeameter TPST-55

The Soil Permeameter TPST-55 is a reliable instrument designed to measure the permeability of soil samples, specifically clayey, sand, and non-cohesive soils with small gravel content. It operates under variable water head conditions and is ideal for testing soil permeability in laboratory and field settings. The device consists of key components like an upper cover, base, permeable stone, sealing ring, and a ring knife, though it does not include water supply equipment. The TPST-55 measures water flow through the soil sample, providing a permeability coefficient based on observed water head changes. With a compact design (φ 118mm diameter and 155mm height) and weighing approximately 5kg, it is portable and easy to use, making it suitable for various geotechnical applications.

The Soil Permeameter TPST-55 is designed to measure the permeability of clayey soil under variable water head conditions. It is ideal for testing soil samples, including those composed of sand, non-cohesive soil, and small amounts of gravel. The instrument is made to adhere to standard specifications and offers precise results for permeability analysis.

The TPST-55 consists of several components, including an upper cover, base, socket, ring knife, permeable stone, and screw, but does not come with water supply equipment. The test procedure involves placing the soil sample into the device, applying a water head, and measuring the amount of water escaping through the sample, providing a permeability coefficient calculation based on the observed results.

Feature:

  • Precision Testing: Measures soil permeability with a variable water head, suitable for clayey, sand, and non-cohesive soils.

  • Robust Design: Made from high-quality materials with components such as a permeable stone, sealing ring, and screw to ensure a tight and reliable setup.

  • Sample Size: Designed for a sample size of φ 61.8mm, height: 40mm (30cm²).

  • Simple Operation: Easy-to-follow procedure for preparing soil samples and starting the test, including a straightforward calculation of permeability coefficients.

  • Durability: Made for durability and longevity, with specific precautions for maintaining the sealing ring and earth cutting ring knife.

  • Compact and Portable: The instrument’s overall dimension (φ 118mm x 155mm high) and net weight of approximately 5kg make it easily portable for field and laboratory use.

Specifications :

Sample size φ 61.8mm, height: 40mm (30cm2)
Overall dimension of the instrument φ 118 (excluding the nozzle) is about 155mm high, and the net weight of the instrument is about 5kg.
  1. Operation steps of osmometer
  2. Prepare samples according to sd128-012-84 of Ministry of water and electricity, or refer to jtj051-93 specification for highway geotechnical test t013-93
  3. Put the permeable stone and sealing ring into the base, apply a layer of Vaseline on the inner wall of the sleeve, put the soil sample ring knife, scrape off the excess vaseline and put it on the base.
  4. Put on the sealing ring, water permeable stone, upper cover, and tighten the screw to prevent water and air leakage.
  5. Connect the inlet pipe mouth with the water supply device, and connect the water and exhaust to level the instrument,
  6. Under the action of water head no more than 200cm, it can be set for a certain time, and the measurement can be started after there is water escaping from the outlet pipe.
  7. During the test, flush the water head pipe to the required height, then close the pipe clamp and start the stopwatch. At the same time, measure and record the initial water head H1. After time t, measure and record the end. The same is the water temperature during the test and at the end,
  8. Calculate (variable head) permeability coefficient according to the formula;

KT=2.3log

Where: a - cross section area of variable head pipe, square centimeter

L ---- penetration diameter, equal to the height of the sample. centimeter

H1 ---- water head at the beginning, CM

H2 -- water head at termination, CM

  1. Precautions for penetrameter:
  2. The rubber pipe at the outlet pipe of the upper cover is not easy to be sleeved to the root, and more than 6mm shall bereserved to prevent it from being pressed against the sleeve,
  3. Clean and dry the sealing ring after each use. The sealing ring should be kept with talcum powder
  4. The earth cutting ring knife shall be kept properly to prevent the blade from damage. This instrument is made in imitation of the Jima permeameter. The inner diameter of this instrument is φ 100 + 0.22mm. It can be used to measure the permeability of sand soil and non cohesive soil with a small amount of gravel under constant water head.
